Adrian, an English boot maker on youtube shows how to handle Suede /Nubuck to keep them dry and clean. He also explains waterproofing or as he calls it, "amphibio." However, once you go waterproof, the Suede/Nubuck is lost. You do end up with waterproof boots though, just darker and more supple. I did this with my suede Keen hiking shoes and they look awesome. Altberg is his channel and he has videos of each concept.
