Charles Beckman, a shoe merchant in Red Wing, Minnesota, recognized the need for comfortable and durable work shoes for farmers, loggers and miners living nearby his main street shoe store. So he rallied 14 investors and in 1905 launched The Red Wing Shoe Company(r) with the mission of manufacturing work boots that would protect feet.
